The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 17, 2022. Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on the third Monday of every January so it occurs around the time of his birthday, January 15th. Considered to be a day of service and remembrance of his legacy, it’s a day for all people to remember that whatever differences we may have in terms of ethnicity or culture, they can and should be overcome for the benefit of society. The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 18, 2021, is the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities in Dr. King's memory.
