BHM Screening ๐ฅ The Six Triple Eight ๐ฟ Recap
In celebration of Black History Month, last week the BET ERG hosted a screening of " The Six Triple Eight" at the SM Farmhouse. This movie tells the remarkable story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit deployed overseas during World War II. These brave women tackled the monumental task of sorting and delivering approximately 17 million pieces of mail in a timeframe of three months. This all-Black female unit during World War II was tasked with clearing a large backlog of mail for American soldiers in Europe, and despite being given six months to complete the task, they managed to do it in half the time. Their dedication and efficiency, despite facing both sexism and racism, played a critical role in the war effort.
This film sparks a larger conversation about the often-overlooked history of Black labor in America. From the skilled craftsmanship of enslaved people who built much of the nation's infrastructure to the tireless work of activists fighting for fair wages and working conditions, Black labor has been integral to every facet of American progress.

The movie serves as a powerful reminder that Black history is American history, and celebrating the contributions of Black laborers is essential to understanding the full story of our nation's development. It highlighted the need to continue amplifying these stories and ensuring they are integrated into our understanding of American history, not just during Black History Month, but throughout the year.
