Happy International Women's Day đ
Happy International Women's Day GumGum!
Today is all about empowering women and celebrating their achievements, for us, here at GumGum EMEA, that means highlighting our inspiring women and taking some time to reflect on how we celebrate and support our women.
After yesterdayâs Women In Leadership Panel Discussion, a range of topics surrounding women within the workplace were highlighted. We delved deeper into the gender stereotypes society places on young women, and even how we parent our girls and boys. We tapped into imposter syndrome and how we, as women leaders, can break down the barriers that have been blocking women from reaching their full potential.
Some thought-provoking comments were also raised with regard to how we, as women, highlight the general imbalance women and men face on a daily basis. Iâd like to highlight (to men) some things that men can do, that women (more often than not) struggle with.
Going from a run at night
Being the victim of sexual harassment in the workplace but generally not be concerned about my physical safety.
Walking down a quiet road with headphones on.
Walking in front of another man without worrying how close heâs getting.
Speaking up in a meeting without being thought of as âoverly ambitious or slightly aggressiveâ.
Talking about their kids and people can think they are a great dad despite me not really engaging with the âmental loadâ that women, invariably, pick up.
Going back to work after two weeks after each of their kids was born and no one at work thought that was cruel or too ambitious or uncaring.
Not being held back in my career by having 3 children.
Not having to worry, when interviewing for a job in my 30s, the interviewer might be thinking âis he going to want to have children in the next year?â.
Men have an inherent size difference over most women which can change the power dynamics in so many ways.
Thank you for reading and I wish you a happy IWD!
